Britain didn't industrialize first by forcing its companies to use more expensive coal. Why would we force American companies to use more expensive intelligence? AI is rapidly becoming a foundational input to production. Open models are rapidly catching up, and companies everywhere are looking for ways to make intelligence more affordable, more abundant, and more directly in their control. Restricting access to cheaper and customizable intelligence won't slow global competition. It will simply make American companies less competitive. No wonder Dario Amodei tries so hard to “kill” or stop open source models from China. How else can Anthropic achieve full AI supremacy, justify their prices to charge whatever & give access to whomever they want. Fortunately, they still have to compete with the US models as well.
