The Interconnects.ai article argues that fears around releasing an open-weight version of Claude Mythos are overstated, noting that closed frontier models still lead open-weight ones in robust, agentic general capabilities, while open-weight models have mainly kept pace on specific benchmarks. The author distinguishes general capability gaps from the narrower cybersecurity question, pointing out that running leading AI systems is very expensive and not something easily done on a laptop or self-service cloud portals — a practical barrier often ignored in open-weight fearmongering. Ultimately, the piece concludes that if open-weight models close to Mythos's capabilities emerged, they could even be fine-tuned by organizations to harden their own security, and it is currently too soon to cite cybersecurity concerns as a general reason to halt progress in open models.
