Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) posted on X urging support for continued Senate debate on the SAVE America Act (formally the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act), a sweeping federal election bill. The legislation requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote and photo identification to vote in federal elections. The bill passed the House on February 11, 2026, by a vote of 218–213, with only one Democrat voting in favor. The Senate began deliberations on the bill on March 17, 2026 , though Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated it was unlikely to pass the Senate, as there were not enough votes to override the filibuster.
