In the early morning hours of April 10, 2026, a 20-year-old suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's San Francisco residence; the device ignited an exterior gate before self-extinguishing, causing minimal damage and no injuries. Approximately one hour later, officers responded to the same suspect making arson threats at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters, leading to his arrest, with charges still pending. In response, Altman published a blog post sharing a family photo and calling for de-escalation of "the rhetoric and tactics" within the AI industry.
