The authors burned over 20 billion tokens exploring its capabilities and found it can act as a fully autonomous AI engineer—selecting/training models, labeling data, managing pipelines, instrumenting logs, deploying/debugging systems, coordinating sub‑agents, and maintaining coherence across billions of tokens. In practice they used Astra to build personal tools, redesign their website, recreate GitHub + Vercel functionality, train a complex board‑game AI, and save substantial development costs.
