Listen to Cat. This interview with @lennysan captures a shift we’re all feeling: what it means to be a PM (and build products) in the age of AI. My takeaways (mostly her words, with some tweaks for how we think about this at @QodoAI): • Product vision = what the product needs to be in 3–6 months. PMs = what we need to do today to get there. • It’s the product role to make sure engineering can ship as smoothly as possible, not to be the bottleneck. • Speed mindset: Eng or Product has an idea → how do we get it to users by the end of the week? Not always realistic, but a useful forcing function. • Ship early, explicitly: most features go out as “research preview.” Sets expectations and accelerates learning. We should lean more into clear alpha/beta labeling. • Dogfooding → handoff: engineers share updates, marketing picks it up. Product doesn’t have to sit in every loop. • Prioritization is the PM job. Comes from deep market understanding + judgment. Also means being okay letting non-core things go. • 30% of time using our own product to discover what it can’t do yet. • Stay chill. The AI market is chaotic, that’s part of the game. • Empowered engineering: engineers making product decisions themselves. This only works if: everyone deeply understands the vision (our responsibility) engineers have strong product mindset (hiring + culture) • (Provocative) PMs, and even designers, shipping code. Not always applicable, but directionally interesting. Not saying we should copy everything, but this was a great thought teaser / validator for how fast teams can operate. As a CEO, I also see myself as part of the PMs, and I ship code.
