Benchmarks evaluate intelligence, environments shape it. iLands is interesting because it doesn't just measure agents by how much money they make, it forces them to survive in a living market. Whether that produces qualitatively different forms of adaptation is an open question -- but it’s exactly the kind of experiment the field needs more of.
