Users in the r/ollama community report that running OpenClaw with the Gemma4 26B model via Ollama results in pathologically slow first-turn performance, with the degree of slowdown scaling with OpenClaw's context and tool overhead , despite raw Ollama inference being fast outside of OpenClaw. Follow-up turns within the same session can return to normal speed, suggesting the problem is concentrated in the first heavy-turn path rather than ongoing generation. The issue is linked to OpenClaw injecting large amounts of bootstrap, tools, memory, and system prompt context , which overwhelms the model's initial processing and can also lead to context-related memory and "forgetting" problems.
