Scientists just built a robot smaller than the width of a human hair (!) It has no motor, no computer and no battery It's a 3D-printed, flexible chain of microscopic segments that, after being hit with an electric field, started swimming through liquid like a snake. Try to block its path? It twists around the obstacle, as if it can sense what's in its way. But the strangest thing about it all is that the behavior isn't programmed. It emerges from the physics of the structure itself. The entire robot is 5 micrometers long (for context: a human hair is 70). The researchers think this could one day deliver drugs directly to tumors or infections inside the human body. Sometimes the simplest designs produce the most lifelike behavior. Media
