The UK government hired Kalbir Sohi to the newly created role of Chief AI Officer (CAIO), making it the most senior AI leadership position in the country's public sector. Sohi holds the title of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer within the Government Digital Service (GDS). This appointment followed the UK government's broader commitment in 2025 to put digital transformation and AI at the heart of plans to reform public services, including the introduction of "Humphrey," a suite of AI tools for civil servants.
