AI SDK
Vercel’s open-source TypeScript SDK for multi-provider AI apps — streaming, tools, structured output, and the layer Eve builds on.
What it does
The AI SDK is Vercel’s open-source TypeScript toolkit for building AI applications and agents across model providers. It provides a unified API for text generation, streaming UI, tool calling, structured outputs, and (in recent majors) stronger agent/runtime primitives. Eve is built on this layer.
Key capabilities
- Multi-provider model calls with a common TypeScript API
- Streaming chat / generative UI hooks for web frameworks
- Tool calling and structured output
- Works with AI Gateway model strings (e.g.
anthropic/claude-…) - AI SDK 7 deepens agent workflows (approvals, durability hooks, harness integration, realtime/voice/video surfaces)
Current major line
Prefer ai-sdk-7 for the June 2026 major release notes (https://vercel.com/blog/ai-sdk-7). Older version posts and changelogs are evidence leaves; this page is the product hub.
How this wiki uses it
Ask Wiki’s Eve agent and web app depend on the ai / @ai-sdk/* packages and Gateway-routed models. Architecture notes: vercel-eve-ai-sdk-7-wiki-assistant.
