What it does

Eve is an open-source agent framework from Vercel for building, running, and scaling production agents. An agent is a directory of files (agent.ts, instructions.md, tools, skills, channels, schedules). Eve owns the runtime plumbing — durable execution, sandboxed compute, approvals, subagents, tracing, and evals — so authors define behaviour without rebuilding the same harness each time. Vercel positions it as “like Next.js, for agents.”

Key features

  • Directory-shaped agents — one folder describes model, instructions, tools, skills, subagents, channels, and schedules
  • Durable sessions — conversations are checkpointed workflows (Workflow SDK); pause, survive deploys, resume
  • Sandbox per agent — untrusted agent code runs isolated (Vercel Sandbox in production; Docker / microsandbox / just-bash locally)
  • Human-in-the-loop — tools can require approval and wait without burning compute
  • Connections — MCP / OpenAPI connections with brokered auth (credentials not exposed to the model); Vercel Connect for OAuth
  • Multi-channel — same agent over HTTP, Slack, Discord, Teams, Telegram, Twilio, GitHub, Linear, plus custom channels
  • Tracing and evals — OpenTelemetry spans per turn/tool; Agent Runs in Vercel Observability; CI-friendly eval suites
  • AI Gateway — model config with provider fallbacks via Gateway

Who makes it

Vercel. Eve is the framework Vercel uses for its own agents. Docs: eve.dev.

How this wiki uses it

Public Ask Wiki runs on Eve (useEveAgent, durable /eve/v1/session turns) with AI Gateway models and read-only wiki tools.
