I was there, sitting next to Sam Altman in the US Senate, when he said this wonderful thing about artists and creators. It was a beautiful statement. In hindsight, though, I realized he was lying (under oath, no less). He didn’t mean any of it; he just tried to work the room. That’s his M.O. And the world is poorer for it. Hey OpenAI, when are you going to do what @sama told Congress was the right thing to do three years ago—to only use creative works to train AI models pursuant to freely & openly negotiated consent & fair compensation? How can an unfairly trained model ever be safe? @GaryMarcus
