If there is ANYTHING I have learned in my early Fable 5 testing, it’s that the judgement calls from AI are getting better and better. Not perfect and not (yet?) a substitute for a human’s taste, context, values, or responsibility. But better. AI is getting better at ambiguity. Better at tradeoffs. Better at knowing when something is “technically correct” but strategically wrong. Better at spotting the weird edge case. Better at saying, “hmmm idk this sounds persuasive, but I don’t think it’s the right call.” That does not mean we need human judgement less. It means we need it differently. The human role cannot simply be: “Do the thing AI is bad at.” Because AI will keep getting better at more things. People conflate the need for human judgement in the AI age with AI’s lack of judgement, which is insanely dangerous, especially in a business environment. The human role is increasingly: decide what matters, define the standard/what good looks like, understand the context, own the consequences, and know when to and when not to delegate. AI can make judgement calls. Humans still have to judge the judgement, if that makes sense.
