In a capitalist economy, absolute levels of value creation and productivity take a backseat to relative competitive advantage. That's why jobs still exist despite 150 years of intense automation. As long as hiring someone represents a non-zero advantage for firm A in its competition with equivalent firm B, that person will have a job, regardless of how much automation these firms use or what their productivity rate is. What gets missed with AI productivity gains is that by and large, most roles will continue to be as sophisticated as the tools allow.
