Apple announced that Tim Cook will step down as CEO on September 1, 2026, ending his 15-year tenure, with John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering, succeeding him as chief executive while Cook becomes executive chairman. Ternus will become Apple's eighth CEO and join the company's board of directors on the same date.
