The kugel-2 model is a community fine-tune of Microsoft's VibeVoice, a text-to-speech model — and its disappearance is rooted in Microsoft's own removal of the base VibeVoice repository. Microsoft pulled the official VibeVoice repo after discovering it "was used in ways inconsistent with the stated intent," citing responsible AI as a guiding principle and disabling the repo until out-of-scope use could be prevented. A community-maintained fork subsequently emerged to preserve the codebase and maintain accessibility, also introducing unofficial fine-tuning support. The Microsoft repo was later partially restored — without code — accompanied by a statement about responsible AI use.
