In 2025, CivitAI underwent several significant platform changes. In April–May 2025, CivitAI tightened rules around extreme/illegal content and real-person likenesses. After its payment processor exited, CivitAI paused credit card payments on May 23, 2025, and rolled out alternative options including crypto, ACH (US), and gift codes. The platform also expanded beyond model-sharing to include on-site image and video generation, an on-site LoRA trainer, and new controls that let creators restrict how and where their models are used.
