OpenAI's Codex now features background computer use that lets multiple AI agents operate a Mac simultaneously without disrupting the user's own work. The update allows Codex to access all other apps on a computer, surface relevant information when asked, take actions in applications, and work in the background while users continue using their computer manually. Codex can also schedule future work for itself, waking automatically to continue long-running tasks across days or weeks, with teams using these automations to land pull requests, follow up on tasks, and monitor conversations across Slack, Gmail, and Notion.
