Nobody knows for sure where employment is going and over what time frame. But one thing I can tell you for sure is that the big AI CEO’s have started lying about it. When they tell you know “we are just here to augment humans, not replace them”, they are saying what they want you to hear for PR, not what they actually believe or hope. Here’s how you can tell. The total addressable market for augmenting humans is probably in the high billions. The total addressable market for replacing humans is in the trillions. The infrastructure bets they are placing are in the trillions. The only chance they have of making back that money is if they displace almost all white collar labor. I am not saying they will succeed. The tech continues to have serious reliability problems; the RoI hasn’t been there. But when they pretend that total labor displacement isn’t their game plan, they are lying to you.
