The Space Force cancelled the Next Generation Operational Control System (OCX) contract, a troubled GPS ground control system program under prime contractor RTX , after spending $6.27 billion as of January 2026 . The project was terminated on April 17th after officials determined OCX could not deliver needed capabilities on an operationally relevant timeline at an acceptable level of risk . The Pentagon will instead continue with the current ground control system managed by Lockheed Martin .
