Since March this year, I’ve been experimenting with personal assistants from OpenClaw and Hermes . With Meta introducing Muse and OpenAI introducing Dots, this technology is going mainstream. These assistants are based on the much-discussed OpenClaw. Meta hasn’t even bothered to replace the OpenClaw file names in the Markdown files! To try Dots right now in Europe I used my ChatGPT Pro subscription at 200 a month and connected it via a VPN to a US based server. To give you a first impression, I recorded a conversation with my ChatGPT Dot, Jasper (in Dutch language though, but my Hermes assistant added subtitles in English). My first impression was that it works really well also in Europe. Hence my comment that this could become mainstream within a year or so if the EU AI act allows them to do so. The downside is that Big Tech gets to know even more about me. That’s why I still prefer the open-source versions, Hermes and OpenClaw: your harness and the configuration built around it stay intact, and they are model-agnostic. OpenAI has also casually announced that its 200-a-month subscription will be reduced to a lower usage level from the end of October, while a new $500-a-month subscription will become available. So, in effect, more than doubling the price: talk about the arrogance of power! And Dots is free (for a month or so), but with OpenAI, Anthropic and the other Big Tech companies, you’d better buckle up for the future and keep your wallet open. submitted by /u/ai_adopter_nl [link] [comments]
