They have AFAIK been given more funding than anyone in history and there is no evidence they can run a profitable business,and meanwhile many other players (Anthropic, Google, Amazon, etc) can take up the slack. @GaryMarcus the financial argument doesnt make sense because it is becoming a matter of national security. usa government will not let anthropic or openai fail, just like it wouldn't let boeing fail, or banks in 2008 fail. technology is too important for national security
