Northwestern researchers built modular robot legs that each operate as fully independent machines: > Own battery > Own motor > Own sensors > Own brain A single module can jump, roll, and turn on its own. Bolt a few together and they become entirely new species of robot that can walk, flip, and sprint across outdoor terrain. Some move like lizards, others drag themselves forward like seals. Every behavior was learned in simulation and transferred to the real world with zero fine-tuning. The goal is to mass-produce these parts so anyone can snap them together like Lego bricks, building robots on-site in disaster zones or hazardous environments, customized to whatever the situation needs.
