Ukraine’s military robot surge aims to offset drone risks to humans

Ukraine's surge in ground robots (unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs) is driven by the rise of aerial drones, which have turned vast swaths of the battlefield into lethal kill zones. These robots are used to deliver ammunition and supplies, evacuate wounded personnel, perform demining tasks, and increasingly provide remote fire support from fixed positions. Ukrainian planners are treating cargo and combat-support robots as a way to systematically substitute machines for humans in the riskiest roles, emphasizing casualty reduction and sustaining combat power under significant manpower constraints.
