I was running Ollama with Maxwell 1500, using a 65,536-token context window, through Zoo Code inside VS Code. I asked the model to analyze a folder containing some pretty simple code. It spent around 4–8 minutes thinking, and suddenly I heard a loud noise from my room. When I checked, my PC was still powered, but my UPS had switched to battery mode and wouldn't return to mains power. I checked it and found that the UPS fuse had literally blown into pieces. My PC specs: * Ryzen 5 7600 * RX 7600 * 16 GB DDR5 RAM * XPG 650W PSU UPS: * Ragtech 1200 VA Has anyone experienced something similar while running a local LLM? Could the high CPU/GPU load from Ollama have caused the UPS to overload, or is this more likely to be a problem with the UPS itself or the electrical supply? Also, could an event like this potentially damage the PC or its componentseven if the PC itself appears to be working normally afterward? I'm trying to understand whether the local LLM workload could realistically have caused this, whether the timing was just a coincidence, and whether I should be worried about continuing to use Local IA. submitted by /u/hahahnaoqueronome [link] [comments]
