The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) announced on April 9, 2026, that it was leaving X (formerly Twitter) after nearly 20 years on the platform, citing a dramatic collapse in reach: an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago. Musk fired the entire human rights team and laid off staffers in countries where the company previously fought off censorship demands from repressive regimes , further eroding EFF's confidence in the platform. EFF will redirect its social media presence to Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and eff.org.
