I'm working on a computer game as a side project. I started it around 4 years ago, before I used any AI for coding. For most of that time I wrote everything myself. Later I started using GitHub Copilot here and there, mostly to polish things, help with some boring code, or talk through a problem. But I still understood the whole codebase pretty well and felt like I actually owned what I was building. Over the last few months or so something changed. I started feeling like I'm just not productive enough anymore. When I see what coding agents can generate in a few minutes, part of me thinks... why am I still spending time writing code and trying to understand the codebase? Why don't I just vibe code the rest of the game and focus my own time mostly on the graphics, gameplay and overall direction? And weirdly, that thought doesn't make me feel better. At the same time, I'm getting more and more frustrated with all the slop around us. Every website, app store, GitHub repo, game page, social network, etc. is getting flooded with things that can be generated almost instantly. What worries me is that even if you actually build something good, it feels like it's becoming harder and harder to get noticed. There is only so much attention to go around, and now genuinely good projects have to compete with an enormous amount of quickly generated stuff for that same attention. That's probably the part that bothers me most. AI makes it easier than ever to build something, while at the same time it feels like it's making it harder than ever for something good to actually be seen.
