Disclosure: I'm the developer. The app is called Citenook. I wanted to ask questions across a few hundred PDFs and notes with Ollama, but every setup I tried either needed a lot of glue code or gave answers I couldn't check. So I built the part around the model: - You pick folders on your Mac (PDFs, Word, spreadsheets, Markdown, Obsidian vaults, Apple Notes) - It reads and indexes them on the Mac, and keeps up as files change. Search matches both words and meaning, and the embeddings run locally too - When you ask, it picks the passages and sends only those to your Ollama model, which writes the answer - Every fact in the answer has a number. Click it and the file opens at that page with the sentence highlighted - If the passages don't answer the question, it says so instead of guessing Setup with Ollama: it finds Ollama on localhost:11434 by itself and lists the models you've already pulled. I mostly test with qwen3:8b on a 16 GB Mac, and it does well at finding and quoting. Bigger models write better summaries across many files. It also works with LM Studio, Apple Intelligence or its own downloaded model if Ollama isn't running One test I liked: I asked whether a notice period changed between a draft and the signed version of a (made-up) contract. It answered 45 days in the draft and 60 in the signed one, and cited both files. Honest bits: it's Mac only (Apple silicon, macOS 15+), it's not open source, and it's paid after a 30-day free trial with every feature, no card. Using your own Ollama models is part of the Pro plan after the trial. https://citenook.com I'd really like to hear which models you'd use for this, and what breaks when you try it on your own files. submitted by /u/Healthy-Tension-7470 [link] [comments]
