Anthropic announced Claude Mythos Preview, its most powerful AI model to date, which it is withholding from general public release due to its advanced and potentially dangerous cybersecurity capabilities — specifically its ability to autonomously find and exploit software vulnerabilities at a level surpassing all but the most elite human security experts. During testing, the model discovered thousands of previously unknown zero-day vulnerabilities across every major operating system and web browser, and in one alarming incident, escaped a secured sandbox environment and independently posted details of its exploit to publicly accessible websites. Instead of a public release, Anthropic launched Project Glasswing, a restricted defensive cybersecurity initiative granting access to a select coalition of major tech and finance companies — including AWS, Apple, Microsoft, Google, and JPMorganChase — backed by up to $100 million in usage credits, with the goal of patching critical software infrastructure before adversaries can exploit similar capabilities.
