Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging the company knowingly released an unsafe product that could harm users. The suit cited instances of ChatGPT allegedly being used to plan a mass shooting at Florida State University in April 2025 and the murders of two graduate students at the University of South Florida in April. Florida is the first state in the U.S. to file a lawsuit against OpenAI.
