Nous Research released Hermes Agent v0.8.0 (tagged v2026.4.8) on April 8, 2026, describing it as "the intelligence release" and encompassing 209 merged pull requests with 82 resolved issues. Key additions include background task auto-notifications, live model switching across all platforms (Telegram, Discord, Slack, CLI, and others), native Google AI Studio (Gemini) support, MCP OAuth 2.1, and self-optimized GPT/Codex tool-use guidance that addresses multiple tool-calling failure modes. The release also added free-tier Xiaomi MiMo v2 Pro on Nous Portal, smart inactivity timeouts, approval buttons, and a broad range of provider, credential, and documentation improvements.
