Nvidia demonstrated Neural Texture Compression technology at GTC 2026, which uses small neural networks to compress game textures and reconstruct them in real time using the GPU's Tensor Cores, reducing VRAM usage by up to 80%. This approach could significantly reduce video game installation sizes by storing smaller texture files, though real-world games are unlikely to use NTC until late 2026 or mid-2027. The NTC SDK has been available to developers since early 2026, but no shipping game currently uses it.
