Google is introducing fake call detection, an industry-first protection that can detect and flag suspected spoofed calls when both contacts use Phone by Google. When a scammer tries to impersonate a contact, the confirmation signal will be missing, and the receiving device will ping the actual contact's device to verify; if the real device confirms it's not making a call, a warning appears. The feature is rolling out globally this month to Android 12 and newer devices, starting with Pixel smartphones.
