Anthropic’s $1.5B copyright settlement is getting messy as judge delays approval

A US federal judge delayed final approval of Anthropic's $1.5 billion copyright settlement with authors, requesting additional details on lawyers' fees and lead-plaintiff payments. The fairness hearing on May 14 showed the judge focused most of her questions and concerns on attorneys' fees and the settlement's cost structure. Additionally, more than 25 authors including Dave Eggers who opted out of the settlement filed a separate lawsuit against Anthropic.
