Europe authorized Moderna's combination mRNA flu-COVID vaccine before the United States did. This dual-purpose vaccine addresses two respiratory viruses in a single shot. The European Commission granted marketing authorization for Moderna's mCombriax, the world's first combination seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccine. While Moderna secured European approval, its combo vaccine faced considerable struggle in the U.S., with the company withdrawing its approval application in May 2025.
