NASA's Artemis II mission — a nine-day lunar flyby that launched April 1, 2026, and the first crewed flight beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972 — successfully concluded when the crew splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego at 8:07 p.m. EDT on April 10, 2026. NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen, were aboard the Orion spacecraft for the return. Slowing to 20 mph at splashdown, Orion completed the Artemis II crew's return to Earth after a 694,481-mile journey.
