Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6, introduced by Google DeepMind, is a significant upgrade to their reasoning-first robotics model that specializes in visual and spatial understanding, task planning, and success detection to help robots understand their environments with unprecedented precision. It shows marked improvement over its predecessor in spatial and physical reasoning capabilities such as pointing, counting, and success detection, and introduces a new instrument reading capability — developed in collaboration with Boston Dynamics — enabling robots to accurately read complex gauges and sight glasses. Available to developers via the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, it is also Google DeepMind's safest robotics model to date, demonstrating superior compliance with Gemini safety policies on adversarial spatial reasoning tasks compared to all previous generations.
