GM Energy introduces V2G support and new energy storage battery chemistry

GM Energy is activating vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability for existing customers without requiring new hardware, with development currently focused on software and finalizing utility partnerships. The company is partnering with Peak Energy to develop and deploy grid-scale battery storage based on sodium-ion chemistry, which GM describes as a defining chemistry for grid-scale energy storage systems. Collaborations already announced include a Northern California project with Pacific Gas and Electric Company expecting a fleet of 130,000 GM EVs providing grid-balancing services by 2030.
