Google loses long-running appeal of record EU fine, will have to cough up $4.7 billion

Google lost its long-running fight against a €4.1 billion ($4.7 billion) European Union antitrust fine after the bloc's top judges said regulators were right to punish the company for abusing Android's market power. The European Commission originally imposed the penalty in 2018 on the grounds that Google abused Android's mobile dominance to give unfair advantage to its own apps via pre-installation deals with smartphone makers. The European Court of Justice's ruling on Thursday is legally binding and marks a significant win for the Brussels-based regulator.
