Google's electricity consumption grew 37 percent in 2025, its largest year-on-year annual increase to date, driven predominantly by AI demand. This brought cumulative growth in electricity use to more than 250% since 2019. Google's own report states its "AI infrastructure buildout is currently accelerating faster than the grid is decarbonizing."
