The James Webb Space Telescope observed LAP1-B, an ultra-faint galaxy at 800 million years after the Big Bang, magnified by gravitational lensing from galaxy cluster MACS J0416. LAP1-B is the most chemically primitive star-forming galaxy discovered to date, with oxygen levels far below solar abundance. The galaxy, which formed during the reionization era, contains very few stars within a dominant dark matter halo.
