Huge landslide created a 500-meter-high tsunami in a major tourist area

On August 10, 2025, a massive landslide struck Tracy Arm fjord in Alaska, preconditioned by glacial retreat caused by climate change, resulting in a 481-meter-high tsunami . The fjord is a popular destination for cruise ships and tour boats, with more than 20 boats per day visiting in past years , but the event occurred early in the morning, and fortunately no one was harmed . The landslide was the result of the rapid retreat of South Sawyer Glacier, itself a consequence of global climate change .
