iOS 26.5 introduces end-to-end encryption for RCS messages exchanged between iPhone and Android users, with encryption requiring both participants to have a carrier that supports the feature. The update also adds a "Suggested Places" section to Maps and lays groundwork for ads coming to the Maps app this summer. The encryption feature is available across Apple's ecosystem on iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, putting cross-platform conversations on par with iMessage encryption.
