Mathematicians warn of AI threats to profession as industry encroaches

The declaration warns that unchecked AI advancement threatens the "autonomy of mathematics" and argues that AI-generated proofs are difficult to incorporate into established validation procedures. The declaration, backed by over 150 mathematicians, urged governments not to "believe the hype" about AI systems' math abilities, following claims of increasing capability from AI firms.
