Moderna gets $50 million to develop mRNA Ebola vaccine against Bundibugyo

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) announced an expanded collaboration with Moderna, committing up to $50 million to support preclinical development and Phase 1 clinical testing of an mRNA vaccine candidate against Bundibugyo ebolavirus, for which no licensed vaccines currently exist. The funding will support parallel manufacturing to enable dose production during clinical evaluation and rapid advancement to Phase 2/3 trials if Phase 1 data supports further development. This investment comes as the Bundibugyo strain drives an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
