Musk's Europe gamble: Will others follow the Dutch and approve FSD?

The Netherlands approved Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system under UN Regulation 171 on April 10, 2026, becoming the first European country to do so. Other EU member states can recognize the Dutch approval nationally, though Tesla has lobbied several countries to support the move with no formal approvals yet from other nations. A May 5 Brussels meeting scheduled the Dutch presentation but is not a decision point, with the earliest formal EU-wide vote realistically occurring June 30, 2026.
