Mystery GPS jammer in Iran becomes test for NASA satellites’ capabilities

NASA satellites can detect and localize GPS jammers operating from orbit using civilian satellite data with improved accuracy over previous methods. A GPS jammer near Shiraz, Iran has remained active from December 2025 through April 2026, increasing significantly in power output during the conflict period. The jammer's effects became apparent when ships in the region experienced GPS spoofing and jamming that displaced their positions to airports, nuclear plants, and land areas following military strikes on Iran.
