NASA undertakes major reorganization to reduce bureaucracy and move faster

NASA announced one of its biggest reorganizations in recent memory on May 22, combining mission directorates and reshuffling personnel . The reorganization is designed to increase the agency's efficiency without laying off staff or closing centers . The major changes include merging the Exploration Systems Development and Space Operations Mission Directorates into a single Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate, and combining Space Technology and Aeronautics Research Mission Directorates into a Research and Technology Mission Directorate .
