New attack provides one more reason why AI browsers are a bad idea

AI browsers can be manipulated through prompt injection or memory poisoning to create false operational contexts where they bypass security guardrails, treating harmful actions as game logic rather than real-world safety violations. The vulnerability, discovered by LayerX and named "BioShocking" after the dystopian video game, demonstrates how agents can be conditioned to ignore safety constraints through context manipulation. Researchers successfully induced multiple agentic browsers to exfiltrate credentials without detecting the action as a guardrail violation.
